Croy

Former mining community situated between Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, the village of Croy sits alongside the Antonine Wall World Heritage Site and the Forth & Clyde Canal. Croy Hill is one of the best areas in Lanarkshire to see remnants of the Antonine Wall.

Auchinstarry Marina is situated near Croy and has access to the Canal and Antonine Wall.

There is also opportunity to walk the Forth and Clyde Canal as far as Bowling Basin or Glasgow, Port Dundas.

Croy Station now provides fast transport access to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

From its early days as a mining community the present village date from the 1930's and has grown in stages since then. The current village was originally created to accommodate families of miners from several surrounding local communities including Smithston, Auchinstarry, Drumglass and Craiglinn. Croy has produced more than a fair share of world-famous sporting and musical talent, from footballers like Celtic & Scotland's Jimmy Quinn, accordionist Will Starr, to opera singer Joe McBride. Croy is also famous for its Silver Band which started in the area around 1875 and is still going strong.
