The pretty woodland trails and open green spaces make Calderglen Country Park in East Kilbride an ideal place for you and your dog to explore. You can enjoy the peace and quiet of riverside walks in the scenic wooded glen forged out by the Rotten Calder river (look out for the lovely waterfalls) while your canine friend makes the most of energetic games of fetch in the open areas. Strathclyde Loch and Country Park sit in around 400 hectares of countryside right in the heart of the Central Belt, and there are miles of walks for you and the dog to enjoy. The walk around the loch itself is easy and accessible, and there are other areas to explore. The park also offers outdoor adventure playgrounds, bicycle hire, a fitness gym, a watersports centre with café and popular family fun boats if you fancy taking to the water.

Take the dog for a walk in Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton to enjoy criss-crossing woodland pathways, before settling down for a picnic with stunning views across the surrounding countryside to the Campsie Hills and Ben Lomond. There is plenty of space for you and your pet to explore as the park sits in around 500 acres with more than 10 miles of walking routes.

A section of the Antonine Wall, a UNESCO world heritage site, runs through Lanarkshire and as well as being dog-walking heaven, it offers a valuable glimpse into ancient times. Improved access and signage along the route of the wall offers great walking between Castlecary and Croy, but there are plenty of long and short walks to enjoy whether you are looking for something energetic with your four-legged friend, or an altogether more leisurely stroll.
