‘Treasures from the Attic’ is a collection of the Artworks and Treasures we hold in our Museum’s attic that, like most museums, the public never get to see. Some of the artwork we will be displaying will include works by Robert Gemmell Hutchison (1855-1936), William Crozier (1893-1930), John Pairman (1788-1843) and James Howe (1788-1836) all of whom have a connection to Biggar. Treasures will include some of our silverware and a magnificent clock made by James Plenderleith, a joiner from Biggar, whose family were well known in conservation practices in museums. Our wonderful image we have included here is 'On Tinto Hill’ by Robert Gemmell Hutchison painted in 1888. It is of the artist’s wife, Janet Boe of Biggar, and first born daughter, Maud.
If you have always wanted to join a choir locally, you can! The Bothwell Rock Choir is led by Glasgow based musician and teacher Jennifer Scouller The choir is for all ages and all the local Glasgow branches of Rock Choir, like ours come together to do incredible gigs like the 9,500 seat Liverpool Arena and also our numerous Guinness World Record attempts (The Rock Choir members have got 3 world records and even had personal certificates arranged for them) and community events too like the local Glasgow music and food festivals. You've probably heard us singing in and around Glasgow, or seen one of our many TV appearances, and never thought you'd have to courage to get up on stage and sing! But the unique teaching methods at the Bothwell Rock Choir, along with no need to audition or read music, mean that we are accessible to all. Come along and try us out for free at a taster session, and experience singing with your local 'exceptional' Rock Choir for yourself.
