Palacerigg Country Park is located in the hills to the south of Cumbernauld. The land was planted in the early 1970’s with hundreds of thousands of native trees and shrubs to provide a sheltered environment for wildlife, including roe deer, pine martens, badgers, foxes and hares and sparrowhawks, kestrels and owls. Not all of these animals are easy to spot but if you know what to look for, you might be lucky.
Visitors can enjoy the surroundings and walk the 10 km network of paths and trails. Learn more about the waymarked trails, including a Hidden Creatures trail which invites families to play hide and seek with badger and his friends, and maps and waymarking to guide visitors around the network of paths which are suitable for walking, wheeling and cycling.
Check out the NL Stories signage while you're there to imagine the area as a hunting ground many hundreds of years ago.
