On the banks of the River Clyde in Rutherglen, Cuningar Loop is an exciting woodland park with a wealth of things to explore. Take a stroll along the riverside boardwalk or meander through the forest trails. Relax with a picnic in the large open meadow or get active at the bike skills area. The Loop is also home to Scotland's first outdoor bouldering park, which offers opportunities for new and experienced climbers, including para-climbers. There is an adventure play area plus art installations to enjoy, including the impressive Evolve sculpture which represents the transformation of Cuningar Loop from derelict land into vibrant community woodland.

Two natural lochs, moorland, woodlands, grasslands and a visitor centre are just some of the fantastic free attractions at Drumpellier Country Park in Coatbridge. There are trails and wildlife displays, an adventure playground and plenty of wildlife-spotting opportunities along the banks of the Monklands Canal. The network of paths makes for easy access to all areas, and many of these are accessible to wheelchairs and prams.

Free fun and fascinating learning are all on offer at North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre in Motherwell. In addition to gallery and exhibition spaces, and the area’s archives and local studies services, this centre includes the excellent Climb Thru Time tower, in which the higher you go, the more you will know about the area’s history. There’s also an outdoor play area and a popular viewing tower provides spectacular views of the town and surrounding areas.
